I feel like I am going CRAZY.

I recently started a short story for: a. a Midwest short story competition and b. as a cute gift to be a small part of my husband's birthday celebration... and I am running on the high of the inspiration at the beginning while hitting the middle slump of drafting. The beginning was so clear in my mind, the words flowed with a distinct voice... and I feel like I lost all of that uniqueness and strong imagery drafting the rest of the piece. It was a flash and then it was gone.

Do others experience this? How do you deal with drafting the middle of your story? Just wanting to vent. Thanks for listening! (heads up - when I am on a second draft, I may send this in for some beta reading / critique).
